Matching colors is not a requirement. What makes an outfit look good is how well it fits your body. As long as the colors don't clash (ex. bright orange and bright red), the contrasting colors will pull together very nicely. Different colors, when done properly, creates contrast between different pieces of your outfit for a bold statement. The key is to use mostly neutral colors like blue and grey and never try to mix different shades of the same color (ex. two shades of grey). In this photo I matched the top half with black understated trousers and it just works.
