Eight years of style greatness comes to an end:
For the many viewers that follow AMC's Mad Men, we enjoyed a show with deep character development and an entertaining plot. Beyond being one of the most entertaining shows on television for the last 8 years, Mad Men inspired men everywhere to look dapper in a suit. I came to a realization this past Sunday the show was finally over. Before I can let go of it completely, I'd like to pay tribute to three style icons from the show.
The star of the show, Don Draper set the bar very high with his calm demeanor and powerful words. Beyond the many physical gifts that make him stand out, I give him credit for always being on point with his dark suits. For events he wore colorful/patterned blazers and various well fitted casual attire. For this, Don Draper wins the effortless style award. If everything a man wears is nicely fitted and well thought out, he makes being dapper look easy.
It's the silver fox himself. I liked this character for his wits. Roger Sterling has some of the best one liners on the show. Unlike Don Draper who was aesthetically gifted, Roger's powerful presence was based around his charm. He made bold statements and this attitude spilled over to his sense of style. Roger wore the boldest suits on the show of various styles (three piece, double breasted, color blocking blazers) and in my opinion was the most stylish character. For this he wins the best dressed award. For the average guy, take note of Roger Sterling. If you aren't born with attractive traits, stand out by being bold.
Some people may not even remember this man but I believe he deserves to be mentioned. For those who forgot, Jim Cutler was a partner after the first merger and he tried his best to push Don Draper out of the firm. Why did he make this list? It's because he was a ruthless businessman that looked good in a power suit. Like Don, he commanded respect at the office wearing a simple well fitted suit every episode. Beyond that, he also rocked an amazing pair of thick frame glasses that put his style over the top. For this he wins the Geek Chic Award. Put a big pair of glasses on a poorly dressed man, he's a clueless geek. Put it on a man in a nice suit then it becomes a statement piece.
